Our Tutors
Level of qualification
Majority of our tutors are trained as teachers or hold a qualification in teaching e.g. PGCE, Cert.Ed. or Teachers Certificate. We also have excellent graduate tutors who do not have a PGCE, but they clearly have the right approach on a one-to-one tutoring basis, which we believe is more important to tutoring successfully. A tutor is only selected on onto our team of excellent tutors, if GradTutors feel they are able to provide an excellent service.
Unlike most other agencies we also use undergraduates, where our clients feel their needs can be met i.e. teach primary to GCSE level only. GradTutors understands that although undergraduates are still studying they have picked up a vast range of knowledge throughout their studies, and are more than capable of teaching at lower levels in the degree subject.
Checks we carry out
It is necessary for tutors registered with GradTutors to complete the Tutor Application Form, and where applicabale, to provide photocopies of their degree(s) and/or teaching qualifications.
We also ask for names, addresses, telephone numbers, and positions of two referees, along with proof of address and ID. Without evidence of qualification, their application is not normally considered. Once we have the relevant details, and should they pass our strict standards, we accept them as a Tutor for GradTutors.
CRB checks are usually requested from all tutors. However, in some circumstances, where we feel the tutor has a lot to offer to students, CRB checks are not required. It is advisable that the tutor provides CRB documentation or that you request a CRB check before tuition commences, particularly if the tutor is dealing with children, young people or vulnerable adults. GradTutors does not verify or provide criminal background checks on all tutors, it is therefore the responsibility of the student (if student under the age of 18) and/or guardian to verify or run a criminal background check with any of the various CRB umbrella companies.
